Solution:
India is geographically diverse and has different types of natural vegetation spread across the country. The natural vegetation of India is classified into five major types. Tropical Evergreen forests, tropical deciduous forests, tropical thorn forests, mangrove forests and montane forests. ​

Montane forests:
  • The Montane forests can be classified into three types according to the altitude as; alpine vegetation, temperate forests and wet temperate forests. ​
  • Alpine vegetation is found in areas with altitudes more than 3600m. Coniferous forests are found in areas with altitudes of 1500 to 3000m. Coniferous trees are conical in shape and their branches lean towards the surface for the snow to easily slide down. Wet temperate forests are found in areas with altitudes of 1000 to 2000m. ​
  • Oak and chestnut trees are important trees found in wet temperate forests. ​
  • Pine, deodar, spruce etc., are important trees in temperate forests. ​
  • Silver fir is an important tree found in the alpine forests. ​
  • Some of the well-known wildlife in these forests are the Kashmir stag, Tibetan antelope and snow leopards.
