Solution

Endocrine glands :

The endocrine system consists of glands called endocrine glands that release hormones directly into the circulatory system of the animal to perform certain specific activities on target sites. Therefore, they are also named ductless glands.

Glands present in a body:

  1. The major endocrine glands present in the endocrine system of a body are namely: the Pituitary, Hypothalamus, Pineal gland, Thyroid, Pancreas, Adrenal glands, Parathyroid, Thymus, Gonads- Ovary (females), and Testis (males).
  2. Each of these endocrine glands has a specific function and secretes a different hormone that has an action to take place but depends on the hormones to receive a signal.
  3. Endocrine glands also play a major role in maintaining Homeostasis. The secretions of these glands are responsible for the major functioning of the body.

For example, Insulin is secreted by the endocrine gland- the pancreas which aids in the breakdown of complex carbohydrates into simpler forms of sugar.
