Solution

Metabolism:

  1. The chemical reactions that occur in the body to convert food into energy required by the body are called metabolic reactions.
  2. Metabolism includes two processes namely - catabolism and anabolism.
  3. Catabolism is the process of the breakdown of complex molecules into simpler ones.
  4. Thus, it is also known as destructive metabolism or breaking down process.
  5. Anabolism is the process of formation of the simpler ones into complex molecules.
  6. Thus, it is also known as constructive metabolism or building-up process.

Excretion:

  1. Metabolic reactions result in the release of energy and form other substances that are not required by the body.
  2. These unwanted products are called waste products.
  3. The process by which the waste products that are harmful to the body are removed from the body is known as excretion.
  4. The organs that eliminated the excretory products are called excretory organs.

The common metabolic products and their excretory organs are given below:

Metabolic wasteExcretory organForm of excretory product
Excess liquid present in the body KidneysUrine
Nitrogenous wastes, salts, and excess waterSkinSweat
