Vitamins are essential macromolecules that are required by an organism in minute quantities for the proper functioning of their metabolic pathways and physiological functions. They are usually obtained from outside (as a part of the diet) as they are not synthesized inside the body of an organism. Out of the wide variety of vitamins present in the diet, 9 are water soluble. They include- Vitamin B1 (thiamine), Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (niacin), Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), Vitamin B6, Vitamin B7 (biotin), Vitamin B9, Vitamin B12 (cobalamin), and Vitamin C.
