Name the WBCs involved in eosinophilia.

Eosinophils

  1. They are type of WBCs which have acidophilic granules in their cytoplasm and are thus classified under granulocytes.
  2. They form about 2-3% of total WBCs.
  3. The granules present in eosinophils can be stained by acidic dye Eosin and give orange-red colour.
  4. Nucleus in these cells is bilobed.
  5. They secrete antitoxins and are also associated with allergic reactions.
  6. They engulf toxic materials formed in antigen-antibody reaction.
  7. Eosinophilia is a higher than normal level of eosinophils.
  8. This condition is mainly caused by a parasitic infection.
  9. Hence WBCs involved in eosinophilia are eosinophils.
