Question

Name three factors which affect evaporation.

Open in App
Solution

Evaporation is a process in which a liquid changes into vapours even below its boiling point. Factors that affect evaporation are:

  1. Temperature
  2. Surface area
  3. Humidity
  4. Wind speed
  5. Nature of the liquid

Three factors that affect evaporation are explained below:

  • Temperature: The greater the temperature of the liquid and its surroundings, the faster the rate of evaporation.
  • Surface area: Since evaporation is a surface phenomenon, the greater the surface area occupied by the liquid, more the rate of evaporation.
  • Humidity: The greater the humidity of the atmosphere surrounding the water, the slower will be the rate of evaporation.
