Name three homologues of aldehyde series.
A homologous series is a sequence of compounds with the same functional group and similar chemical properties in which the members of the series can be branched or unbranched, or differ by molecular formula of CH2. A homologous series for aldehydes is methanal, ethanal and propanal with chemical formulas of HCHO, CH3CHO and CH3CH2CHO respectively where each successive compound differs from the previous one by a –CH2 group.
