Blood is a fluid connective tissue that circulates throughout our body through arteries and veins.
Blood carries different substances like nutrients, gases, waste products, hormones hence helping in the transport of these substances throughout the body.
Three substances that blood transports are as follows:
Respiratory gas - Blood carries oxygen from the lungs to other tissues through arteries and carbon dioxide from those tissues back to the lungs via veins.
Food material - Complex food materials after digestion is broken into simpler compounds like glucose, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. These are absorbed into the blood and transported throughout the body.
Waste product - Blood collects toxic substances that were generated in the tissues during various metabolic processes and brings them to the excretory organs so that they can be excreted out from the body.
