Solution

Geothermal energy:

  1. Geothermal energy is that type of thermal energy generated and stored inside the Earth’s crust.
  2. The center of the earth remains at the constant temperature as the Sun which is nearly constant due to the continuous process of nuclear fusion.
  3. In order to harness geothermal energy, a hydrothermal convection system is used.
  4. In this process, a hole is drilled deep inside the earth, through which a pipe is inserted.
  5. The steam, which is trapped in the rocks is routed through this pipe to the surface of the earth.
  6. This steam is used to turn the blades of a turbine of an electric generator.
  7. In a different method, the steam is used to heat water from an external source which is then used to rotate the turbine.

Indonesia and Iceland are the countries where geothermal power plants are operational.
