The two effects of force on a stationary body are:
1. Change in the state of the body:
When a force is applied to a body at rest, it moves if the force applied is more than the force of resistance offered by the body.
Force of resistance is mainly due to the weight of the body and the frictional force developed between the body and the surface on which a body is moved.
Force changes the state of rest to the state of motion.
2. Change in shape and size:
A force can change the shape and size of an object at rest.
A balloon resting on a table undergoes a change in shape and size when a compressive force is applied to it.
Similarly, if a tensile force is applied to a spring at rest, it stretches and undergoes a change in shape and size.
