Question

Name two examples of contact forces.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Contact force: These are the forces that come into play due to actual contact between the source and the object.
  2. For example: Normal reaction - When a body exerts a force on another, the second provides a reaction that acts perpendicular to the surface of the first body. If the contact is frictionless, then contact force that is perpendicular to the common surface is known as a normal reaction.
  3. Air friction: Applicable when motion takes place through the air. This force becomes appreciable for bodies moving at high speeds.
