Question

Name two factors on which the pressure on a surface depends.

Open in App
Solution

Pressure on a surface depends on the following two factors:

1. Thrust applied
2. Area of surface.

Pressure is inversely proportional to the area on which force (thrust) is applied:

An increase in area of contact causes a decrease in pressure in such a way that if area of contact is doubled, the pressure becomes half and vice-versa.
