Question

Name two factors on which the strength of the magnetic field of an electromagnet depends.

Solution

The strength of the magnetic field of an electromagnet depends on the following factors.

1. Magnitude of electric current

  1. In the case of an electromagnet, when electric current flows through the copper wire wound around the soft iron bar, magnetism is induced in the electromagnet.
  2. The strength of the magnetic field of an electromagnet is directly proportional to the magnitude of the electric current flowing through its coil.
  3. More the electric current flowing through the coil of the electromagnet, the more the strength of the magnetic field and vice versa.

2. Number of loops of the coil

  1. The strength of the magnetic field produced by a magnet is directly proportional to the number of loops of its coil.
  2. More the number of loops of the coil of an electromagnet, the more the strength of the magnetic field produced by it and vice versa.
