The decomposition of plants and animals produces fossil fuels.
These fuels can be found in the Earth's crust and contain carbon and hydrogen, which can be burned to generate energy.
Two fossil fuels:
Coal-Carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur make up this hard, black material.
Petroleum-It's an oily, transparent liquid that's frequently green or black. Sea animals and plants die, and their bodies sink to the ocean's depths. The layers of sand and clay squeeze them and when they come into contact with high temperatures and pressure, they turn into petroleum.
