Solution
The endocrine cells of the pancreas are known as islets of Langerhans, which composed of two primary types of cells, alpha cells, which secrete glucagon and beta cells, which secrete insulin.
The function of glucagon:
Chemoreceptors in the alpha cells detect decreased blood glucose levels and release glucose into the blood. Glucagon facilitates the breakdown of nutrients and their release into the blood.
The function of Insulin:
Chemoreceptors in the beta cells detect an increase in blood glucose and stimulate to release insulin. It decreases the level of nutrients within the blood.
