Organic farming can be defined as an agricultural process that uses biological fertilizers and pest control acquired from animal or plant waste.

Methods employed in organic farming to increase soil fertility are:

  1. Green Manures: Green undecomposed matter used as manure is known as green manure. It is obtained in two ways by growing green manure crops in the field or by collecting green leaves (along with twigs) from plants grown in wastelands.
  2. Bio-fertilizers: Biofertilizers are substances that contain microbes, which help in promoting the growth of plants and trees by increasing the supply of essential nutrients to the plants. It comprises living organisms which include mycorrhizal fungi, blue-green algae, and bacteria.
