1. They have valency equals to 1, as they have 7 electrons in their outermost shell so they accept 1 electron to complete their octate in order to attain nearest noble gas configuration and gain stability.
2. Most of them are highly reactive non-metals as their electron gain enthalpy is high. They easily accept electrons to form negative ions.

4. At room temperature Fluorine $\left(\mathrm{F}\right)$ and Chlorine $\left(\mathrm{Cl}\right)$ are gases but Bromine $\left(\mathrm{Br}\right)$ is a liquid non-metal, Iodine $\left(\mathrm{I}\right)$ and Astatine $\left(\mathrm{At}\right)$ are solids.
5. Hence, Fluorine belongs to group 17 and elements from this group are known as halogens. Two more elements from this group would be Chlorine $\left(\mathrm{Cl}\right)$ and Bromine $\left(\mathrm{Br}\right).$
