Population growth = organism added - organism lost.

Various components of the environment that determine population growth:
1. Biotic potential :

  • It is the physiological capacity of organisms to supply offspring.
  • It is known as reproductive potential.
  • The maximum value of biotic potential is not obtained due to many factors in the environment like shortage of food, premature death, etc.

2. Environmental resistance:

  • It is the sum of different factors that do not permit the survival of all the members of a species.
