In humans, external nares open into a nasal passage or nasal chamber. Both the nasal chambers are called as a nasal vestibule. The nasal vestibule is formed by the invagination of skin in embryonic stages so this part contains hairs and sebaceous glands. The remaining part of a nasal passage is formed of bones- nasal, ethmoid, and maxilla. At several places in the nasal passage, these bones form outgrowths called as turbinals. The epithelium over turbinals is richly vascular which helps in making temperature of air equal to body temperature before it reaches lungs. A coat of epithelium is present on the turbinal bones of maxilla and ethmoid. This is pseudostratified columnar, ciliated, glandular epithelium. It has goblet cells which secrete mucus.
