Nationalism, is a sense of belongingness towards a nation that drives individuals to transform their thoughts and ideas into organized deeds of collective action. In India the feeling of nationalism is associated with anti colonial movement. In the process of their struggle against the colonial yoke people began to discover their own identity of belonging to one nation.

b. Excessive economic exploitation by the British and reducing country to abject poverty, oppressive British policies did bring the people of the country together to fight against the colonial yoke.
c. Political occupation of the country, British policy of racial discrimination, of divide and rule , instilled a feeling of nationalism among the people, which encouraged them to fight against the foreign domination.
d. Acts like Rowlatt act, salt tax, jallianwala bagh tragedy, compelled people to fight against the colonial regime, to organize mass movements.
e. Umbrella Organization like Congress which led the nationalist struggle brought every section of Indian society under its fold.
f. Nationalist Movement as led by Mahatma Gandhi who brought the people of country together into organized movements of mass struggle.

g. Political administrative changes introduced by the British like Judicial system, army , police gave country a single political structure and unified administration.
h. Various folk tales, songs, symbols like national flag gave a sense of identity to the people. National song like Vande matram instilled a sense of belonging ness uniting people from different languages.Folk tales, songs, hymns were used by our national leaders to give a sense of pride in our own culture. It instilled a sense of confidence in the people.
