For all practical purposes, we assume that the silces were exactly same in size, since the question mentions "equal slices"
Ted has a slice of the pizza and Ned has a slice of the pizza.
Each of them divides their share of the pizza into 8 equal slices. Hence that leaves them with a total of 16 equal slices
Since they take 8 slices each, Ned (or Ted) gets 816 of the pizza. This is because out the 16 slices available is divided between them, each taking 8 slices.

Now Ned feels the pizza was not shared equally. Ned has 816 of the pizza, which is equal to 12 of the pizza.
Ted has 816 of the pizza, which is equal to 12 of the pizza.

Since both of them have to 12 of the pizza, the pizza was shared equally
