Neelam’s father bought a total of $3\frac{1}{2}$ m of clothes in total. Out of the same $2\frac{1}{7}$ m is used for dress whereas $\frac{2}{5}$ m is used for a scarf. How much part of the cloth was left over ?

Length of cloth that is used for making a dress = $2\frac{1}{7}m$
Length of cloth that is used for making scarf = $\frac{2}{5}m$
Total length of cloth used to make dress and a scarf =$(2\frac{1}{7}+\frac{2}{5}m)=(\frac{15}{7}+\frac{2}{5}m)$

The L.C.M of 7,5 = 35
$\frac{15\times 5}{7\times 5}=\frac{75}{35}\frac{2\times 7}{5\times 7}=\frac{14}{35}\frac{75}{35}+\frac{14}{35}=\frac{75+14}{35}=\frac{89}{35}$
Length of cloth $=3\frac{1}{2}=\frac{89}{35}=\frac{7}{2}-\frac{89}{35}$
L.C.M of 2 and 35 = 70
$\frac{7}{2}=\frac{7\times 35}{2\times 35}=\frac{245}{70}\frac{89}{35}=\frac{89\times 2}{35\times 2}=\frac{178}{70}$
Therefore, length of cloth that is left = $\frac{245}{70}-\frac{178}{70}=\frac{67}{70}$
$\frac{67}{70}$ m of cloth is left after making a dress and a scarf.
