Neelima went to shop to buy a dress. Marked price of the dress is Rs.1000. Shop owner gave a discount of 20% and then 5%. Find the single discount percent equivalent to these two successive discounts.

Marked price =1000
Percent discount (D1)=20%
Percent discount (D2)=5%
SP1=MP20% of MP
=1000(20100)×1000=800

Now the 5% discount is applied on the SP1

SP2=800(5100)×800=760

Total discount =M.PSP2=1000760=240

Total discount percent =(DiscountM.P)×100

=(2401000)×100=24

Single discount equivalent is 24%.
