Marked price $= 1000$
Percent discount $(D_{1}) = 20$ %
Percent discount $(D_{2}) = 5$ %
${S P}_{1} = M P - 20$ % of $M P$
$= 1000 - (\frac{20}{100}) \times 1000 = 800$
Now the $5$ % discount is applied on the ${S P}_{1}$
${S P}_{2} = 800 - (\frac{5}{100}) \times 800 = 760$
Total discount $= M . P - {S P}_{2} = 1000 - 760 = 240$
Total discount percent $= (\frac{D i s c o u n t}{M . P}) \times 100$
$= (\frac{240}{1000}) \times 100 = 24$
$∴$ Single discount equivalent is $24$ %.
