Question

negative and positive pressure in transportation

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Negative and positive pressure occurs during transportation of water (solvent) in the xylem tissue of plants.

Negative pressure is created when water is lost through the process of transpiration from the leaves which inturn creates tension or pressure in the xylem to pull water from root or soil.

Positive pressure is created when solute concentration in the roots is higher in comparison to soil which forces water molecule to move inside the root through osmosis from the soil.
