The correct option is B lighter elements
When the elements were arranged in the order of increasing atomic weight, every first element had properties similar to that of the eighth element, according to the law of octaves. Newlands' law of octaves worked well mostly with lighter elements, up to Ca (atomic mass 40 u). It was assumed by Newlands that only 56 elements existed in nature. But later on, several new elements were discovered whose properties didn't fit into the Law of Octaves. For heavier elements, the pattern no longer followed the law of octaves.
