Question

NH3 And BF3 form an adduct readily because they form______

Open in App
Solution

Coordinate Bond:

  1. It is actually a covalent bond that consists of a pair of electrons which is further supplied by only one of the two or more atoms that it will join.
  2. In this type of bonding, the atom will share an electron pair from itself which is termed as donor
  3. After the sharing of electron pairs each atom will get stability.
  4. Lewis acid is actually an electron pair acceptor whereas the Lewis base would be the electron pair donor.
  5. Lewis acid and Lewis base will together form the coordinate bond.
  6. BF3 (Boron trifluoride) will behave as the Lewis acid because it is electron deficient and will accept the electron pair.
  7. NH3(Ammonia) , there would be the presence of the lone pair of the electrons on the Nitrogen atom which can further be donated to the necessary Lewis acid

.

Therefore, NH3 And BF3 form an adduct readily because they form Coordinate bond.
