The electronic configuration of nickel is as follows:

The electrons will be lost first from 4s orbital of nickel

So, the electronic conifiguration of Ni2+

Ni2+=1s22s22p63s23p63d8450

Hence, nickel will lose 2 electrons from 4s orbital
