Question

Nikhila spent 5% of her monthly income in her children's education, invested 18% in shares, deposited 3% in a bank, and used 44% for her expenses. She's left with a balance of ₹15,000. Calculate the amount she invested in shares.

Solution

Let the total income be ₹x.
Total % going in investments and expenses = 5 + 18 + 3 + 44 = 70%
Total remaining = 100 - 70 = 30%
30x100=15,000
x=15,000×10030=50,000
Amount invested in shares = 18% of ₹50,000 = 18100×50,000
= ₹9,000
