Step-I : In the first step Nitrogen with air forms Nitrogen Monoxide in presence of thunder or lightening.

Step II: Nitrogen Monoxide further produces Nitrogen dioxide with Oxygen.

Step III: Nitrogen dioxide in presence of water and Oxygen turns into Nitric acid.
