Solution

Dear Student,

Lime water is calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2. When carbon dioxide is passed into it, it turns milky because of the formation of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The reaction involved is as follows,

Ca(OH)2 + CO2 → CaCO3 + H2O

When CO 2 is passed in excess quantity. the milkiness of the solution disappears due to the formation of Ca(HCO3)2

CaCO3 + H2O + CO2 ------------------> Ca(HCO3)2

A: lime water
B: Calcium carbonate
C: Calcium bicarbonate

Hope this answers your question,

Cheers!!
