Question

Noble gas are chemically inactive. Explain with reason.

Open in App
Solution

Noble gases have no tendency to gain lose or share electrons. They do not participate in chemical reactions. This is due to following reasons.
(1) They have completely filled valence shell. The next available vacant shell has much higher energy.
(2) They have large positive electron gain enthalpy values.
(3) They have very high ionisation enthalpy.
