Question

Noble gases have zero

Open in App
Solution

  • Noble gases: Noble gases are elements with a general electronic configuration of ns2np6 and they are also called Inert gases. They include Helium (He), Neon (Ne), Argon (Ar), Krypton (Kr), Xenon (Xe), and Radon (Rn).
  • Electron affinities: It is the energy released when a neutral atom gains an electron to form a stable negative ion.
  • Electron Affinity of Noble gases: As the valence shell of noble gases is filled and there is no more space for additional electrons, thus they do not accept the additional electrons. Hence, their electron affinities are zero.
  • Hence, Noble gases have zero Electron Affinity.
