The first
encountered metal in Columbia was Platinum. The Platinum group metals include
rhodium, ruthenium, palladium, osmium, iridium and platinum. The availability
is so low that minute quantity of one gram of rhodium is found in a ton of
rock. Platinum's resistance characteristics suit for making fine jewellery. Some
of the other distinctive properties are resistance to chemical attack,
excellent durability to high-temperature and stable electrical properties like
high conductivity. These metals are durable and can be used extremely efficiently.
These metal are used in a variety of applications from fountain pens to
aircraft.
