Solution
The correct option is A 6 In the majority of the plants, the first stable intermediate of carbon dioxide reduction is a three-carbon compound. In C3cycle, the initial carboxylation is brought about by RuBisCO which carboxylates Ribulose 1,5 bisphosphate (RuBP) into phosphoglyceric acid. The phosphoglyceric acid is later on reduced to phosphoglyceraldehyde, which is used to synthesize sugars and recycle RuBP. During C3 cycle, 3 ATP molecules and 2 NADPH2 molecules are used per carbon dioxide fixed. One ATP molecules are used up for regeneration of RuBP. Thus for a molecule of glucose, 6 carbon dioxide molecules need to be fixed and 6 ATP molecules will be required for regenerating RuBP.
