Oxidative decarboxylation
Pyruvic acid, the end product of glycolysis, requires to undergo a link reaction to be able to enter Krebs' cycle as acetyl CoA, a 2 carbon compound.
Pyruvic acid is acetylated by the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex which releases carbon dioxide. In this process, one NAD+ is reduced to form NADH + H+ per molecule of pyruvic acid oxidised.
1 NADH + H+ yields 3 ATP on entering ETS.
