There are 23 pairs of chromosomes in humans, of which 22 are autosomes and one pair is of sex chromosomes XX in males and XY in females. The human genome is said to have approximately 3109 base pairs i.e human cells have a nuclear genome of 3000 Mb. Human genome project was launched with the aim of sequencing the complete human genome. It was proposed to sequence all the three billion nucleotide pairs. This project reported around 30,000 genes in human genome.
