Let the number of boys be $x$ .
No of girls $= x - 8$
Given, the ratio of boys and girls in the class $= 7 : 5$
$\Rightarrow \frac{x}{x - 8} = \frac{7}{5}$
$\Rightarrow 5 x = 7 (x - 8)$
$\Rightarrow 5 x = 7 x - 56$
$\Rightarrow 2 x = 56$
$\Rightarrow x = 28$
Thus, number of boys in the class $= x = 28$
number of girls in the class $= x - 8 = 28 - 8 = 20$
Therefore, the total strength of the class $= 20 + 28 = 48$
