In the electron transport chain, the electrons are transferred through the series of co-enzymes and cytochromes.
This chain consists of four complexes as shown in the above figure.
In electron transport chain there are two cytochrome complexes, viz; cytochrome bc1 and cytochrome c oxidase.
The first cytochrome complex consists of cytochrome b, FeS complex and cytochrome c1. Here cytochrome c1 transfers the electron to cytochrome c.
The second cytochrome complex consists of cytochrome a and cytochrome a3. This complex helps transfer the electron to oxygen.
Thus cytochromes are present in the electron transport chain, which are required for the transfer of electrons.
