In the frog, gonocytes enter the multiplication phase and divide to produce oogonia, which in turn serve as primary oocyte mother cells. During oogenesis, primary oocyte undergoes first meiotic division (the first maturation division) to produce one secondary oocyte and first polar body.
Second meio division in secondary oocyte produces mature ovum and second polar body (II). The first polar body (I) also undergo second maturation division to produce two more polar bodies. In this way, total three polar bodies are produced during one cycle of oogenesis.
