Nutrients are components in food that an organism uses for its life processes. Nutrients can be classified into two major categories based on the amount required by the body and their ability to provide energy. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins are required by the body in large amount and provide energy to the body. Hence, these are considered to be macronutrients. Micronutrients are required by the body in considerably small amount as compared to macronutrients. These include elements such as Calcium, Phosphorous, Copper, Zinc, etc.
