Observe the diagram of the human brain and identify the areas mentioned:
i) The area responsible for consciousness, intelligence, memory,imagination and reasoning.
ii) The area responsible for regulation and co-ordination of group movements of voluntary muscles.
iii) The area responsible for sleeping and respiration.
iv) The area responsible for reflexes involved in the regulation of heart beat, blood vessel contraction, breathing etc.

Solution

i) Cerebral cortex is the part of forebrain and is divided into fields with specific functions such as sight, smell, and sensation, and controls higher functions such as the speech, thinking, and the memory.
ii) Cerebellum is the part of the hindbrain have several functions of which the important ones are balance, motoric activities , walking, standing, and the coordination of the voluntary movements . It also regulates the voluntary muscle muscles.
iii) Brainstem contains three parts namely midbrain,pons, medulla oblongata . The medulla oblongata has the main respiratory centre which controls the respiration whereas the midbrain regulates the sleep.
iv) Medulla oblongata contains the cardiac, respiratory, vomiting, and vasomotor centres regulating heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure.
