(a) The force which ${}^{\prime }balance{A}^{\prime }$ exerts on ${}^{\prime }balance{B}^{\prime }$ is called action.
(b) The force of ${}^{\prime }balance{B}^{\prime }$ on ${}^{\prime }balance{A}^{\prime }$ is called reaction.

Action and reaction forces are explained by Newton's third law of motion. This law states that to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. These action and reaction forces are acted on two different bodies which are shown in the diagram.
