Observe the nature of the number patterns given below.
1 + 2 + 3 = 6
5 + 10 + 15 = 30
10 + 20 + 30 = 60
What is the relation between the sum and the middle number ?
The sum is three times the middle number.
On observing the number pattern given, we see that these numbers are the sum of three consecutive numbers or three consecutive multiples of a particular number.
Take the first pattern, which is, 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 (The sum of three consecutive natural numbers).
We observe that the sum '6' is three times the middle number ' 2'.
Take the second pattern, which is, 5 +10 + 15 = 30 ( sum of three consecutive multiples of 5)
We observe that the sum '30' is three times the middle number ' 10'.
Similarly, in the third pattern the sum is three times the middle number.
Hence, we can conclude that if the middle number is 'x', then the sum of three consecutive numbers, or three conseutive multiples of any given number is always '3x'.
