(i) The varieties of coal are :
A - Lignite
B- Peat
C - Bituminous
D- Anthracite
(ii) The percentage of carbon content in each variety of coal is :
Peat - It contains about 50-60% carbon.
Lignite - It contains more than 60 % carbon.
Bituminous - This variety contains 90%, 80% and 70% carbon depending upon the high, medium and low quality of coal.
Anthracite - It contains 92-98% carbon.
(iii) Bituminous is known as household coal because it is very common for domestic use.
(iv) Peat is the cheapest form of coal and has the least carbon content. It is light brown in colour and forms the first stage of the formation of coal.
