Observe the Venn diagram given below.
Which of the following process could be 'X'?
Note:- X possess the properties of both the changes.
Milk changing to curd
Chemical change:- It is a change in which the chemical composition of the substance changes because of the formation of a new substance.
Permanent change: It is a change in which the original state of substance cannot be reattained and it is a fixed change.
Milk changes to curd when a small of curd is added to the warm milk. In this change, a new substance is formed (Milk to curd) and hence this is a chemical change. The curd formed cannot be turned back to milk, and hence it is also a permanent change.
Melting of wax, conversion of water to steam:- In these, no new substances are formed and only the state of (wax, water) are changed (physical change). Moreover, this change is for a limited period of time and the original state of the substance can be reattained on cooling (temporary change).
Cutting of paper:- In this, no new substance is formed as the paper is cut into smaller pieces (physical change) and this change is fixed and it cannot be converted to its original state (permanent change).
