Question

Obtain a relation for the distance travelled by an object moving with a
uniform acceleration in the interval between 4th and 5th seconds.

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

We know that displacement s by an object under uniform acceleration a at time t is given by

s = ut + ½at2

Now displacement for t = 5 seconds will be

s5 = 5u + ½a52

Displacement by the particle for t = 4 second will be

s4 = 4u + ½a42

Displacement undertaken between 4 and 5 second will be

s5 – s4 = (5u + ½a52 ) - (4u + ½a42)

= u + ½a(25 – 16)

= u + 9/2a

If the particle starts from rest then u = 0

Then, displacement between 4 and 5 seconds will be 9/2a
