Ocean thermal energy is generated due to temperature difference at different levels in the ocean. The warm water from the surface and the cold water from the depth of the ocean are collected separately. The warm water is used to convert a low boiling liquid into steam, which is then used to rotate the axle of a generator producing electricity. The cold water is further used to cool the steam and condense it back to water.
