Oil is used for preservation of food from microorganisms then how do some microorganisms live on oil?

Dear student.

Not all microorganism can survive in oil, there are few oil eating microbes such as Colwellia, Cycloclasticus etc that use oil as fuel, only those microbes can survive in oil. Rest of the microbes fails to survive in oil as oil prevents accumulation of moisture, and moisture is essential for the growth of microbes.
