Solution

The correct option is A True

Indicators are those substances that show different colours in acidic or basic mediums and are used to identify the acidic or basic nature of the substance.

An example of a natural indicator is Litmus and synthetic indicators will be Phenolphthalein and Methyl orange.

  • And for visually impaired students we also have Olfactory indicators. With the help of this, one could test any substance or chemical in a lab, whether it is acidic or basic by the change in odour.
  • Example: Onion and Vanilla essence.
  • Onion has a characteristic smell, which does not change when treated with an acidic solution like Vinegar, but it loses its smell in a basic medium. The same we could experience with vanilla essence.

Hence, the statement is true.
