Question

On a particular day rain was falling vertically with a speed of 30kmhr and wind was blowing from East to west at a speed of 18kmhr. Find the relative velocity of rain w.r.t. Ground.

Solution

Rainfall velocity vertically downwards =30Km/h.speed of wind E-W=18Km/h.the resultant speed of rain v=302+182= 900+324=1224. v = 35Km/h approximately in the direction of tan-13/5 with the vertical.tanθ=1830=35. so θ =tan-13/5.
